1:1 Primary Teaching Assistant 

This is a unique opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for working with children with additional needs to work as a 1:1 Primary Teaching Assistant to make a meaningful impact in a specialist school setting. This full-time, classroom-based role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil with Autism and ADHD.

 

The Role

Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team, you will help implement structured, personalised interventions designed to support the pupil’s educational and emotional development. You’ll use a range of communication tools such as PECS, Now and Next cards, visual timetables, and iPads to help reduce anxiety and promote understanding. This is a varied and active role which includes supporting the child during sensory sessions, soft play, music therapy and on local trips, including swimming.

 

Who You Are

You’re patient, adaptive, and motivated by helping children thrive. Whether you’re a qualified Teaching Assistant, hold a childcare or care-related qualification, or come from a background in health or social care, your experience supporting individuals with autism and additional needs will be highly valued in this role. A strong communicator and team player, you’ll be committed to nurturing the child’s confidence, independence, and social skills.

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • TA, childcare or health and social care qualification
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism and/or ADHD
  • Confidence using communication tools and visual supports
  • Empathy, adaptability, and strong teamwork skills

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm
Open to both full-time and part-time applicants

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
