Disability Support Worker

Disability Support Worker – Transfer Your skills to the Classroom!

Are you a disability support worker ready to take the next step in your career? This is a unique opportunity to transfer your valuable skills into a classroom-based role, supporting children and young people aged 3–16 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This role offers more structure, ongoing training, and the chance to be part of a collaborative and professional educational team — all while continuing to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll support pupils with a variety of complex needs including autism, learning difficulties, and physical or medical conditions. Working under the guidance of teachers and specialists, you will help deliver individualised learning, build communication and independence, and provide essential emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day.

Why Make the Move to Education?

Many support workers find the classroom setting a fulfilling next step. It offers:

  • A consistent weekday schedule with school hours and holidays
  • The opportunity to be part of a professional learning environment
  • Ongoing training and career progression within SEND education
  • A chance to support pupils not just with care, but also in achieving educational and developmental goals

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants who bring compassion, patience, and practical experience. You should have:

  • Experience supporting individuals with SEND (in education, care or community settings)
  • A minimum Level 2 qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare)
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • A calm, resilient and caring attitude
  • Confidence working with a range of behaviours and needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Additional training in areas such as Makaton, PECS, moving and handling, or personal care is an advantage, but not essential — training can be provided.

What We Offer

  • A welcoming and experienced team
  • Access to high-quality training and continued professional development
  • A clear path to further opportunities in special education
  • The chance to make a lasting difference in a rewarding and meaningful role

To apply, please submit your CV and a short cover letter outlining your experience and interest in working in SEND education.
