The Role

The role supports children with profound and multiple learning disabilities within an educational environment, where each child is valued as an individual with their own preferences, routines and ways of communicating. Staff provide consistent and compassionate support which reflects the school’s values. The role involves building trusting relationships, listening carefully and adapting support to everyone’s communication style, sensory needs and physical abilities.

We are partnering closely with a school in Whitehaven that currently offers a range of opportunities for Disability Support Workers. The school is deeply committed to providing high-quality, individualized support for children with SEND, ensuring that every pupil is given the tools and encouragement they need to succeed. It fosters a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment where flexibility and creativity are central to the approach. The Ideal Candidate

Experience working with pupils with SEND in a school or similar setting, or relevant experience caring for children
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping them grow
Patient, empathetic and resilient, with a calm and positive approach to challenging situations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with pupils, staff and parents
Flexible and adaptable
Basic knowledge of SEND needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties) is desirable

 

Working Hours

Monday – Friday
Part-time and full-time availability
Term-time only

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
