Teaching Assistant – Autism

 

Sense Education are looking for people who are passionate about working with young people with additional needs. We have a Teaching Assistant position in a class with 6 Autistic pupils who also display challenging behaviour. The role is to support the teacher deliver creative and dynamic lessons tailored to the pupils developmental needs.

 

The class is a primary class aged 6-8. Some pupils are non verbal and use alternative communication techniques such as Makaton and Picture communication. The role is to work as part of a team of Teaching Assistant’s, much of the role is about positive team work. The class are active with activities and also outdoor play, messy play and sensory play.

The ideal person:

  • Will be able to promote a safe and secure place for development and learning
  • Has a passion for helping young people
  • Has experience of behaviour de-escalation
  • Must be a great team player
  • A TA qualification, Social Care or Childcare qualification is desirable

 

We will offer training and support in the position, everyone who works for us is required to complete Safeguarding Training. Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis.
