We have an exciting role to start in September for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant. The role is to work in a friendly and dynamic primary school in Whitehaven. You will be supporting pupils with special needs within small class groups and also 1:1.
The ideal Special Needs Teaching Assistant will have previous experience working with Young people or Adults with ASD– knowledge of PECS or Makaton are also highly desirable but not essential. As a SEN teaching assistant, you will also be required to implement specific teaching programmes as instructed by a speech and language therapist and occupational therapist. The successful applicant will also be responsible for ensuring the successful integration of the pupil in the class. Ideally, you will have a calm nature, as well as a proactive and nurturing attitude. Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis.
