EYFS Teaching Assistant
Sense Education is currently looking for an Early Years Teaching Assistant to start ASAP in the Carlisle area. The role is to support a pupil 1:1 with additional needs in a school setting.
Your Role – as an Early Years Teaching Assistant
As an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support 1:1 and small group learning through play‑based, sensory, and exploratory activities
- Help children access the EYFS curriculum using creative, hands‑on approaches
- Encourage early milestones in communication, independence, and social engagement
- Use visuals, sensory play, and interactive routines to build understanding and confidence
- Assist with daily routines such as toileting, mealtimes, and outdoor play in a caring, respectful way
- Observe children’s progress and support planning next steps alongside other practitioners
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, stimulating, and nurturing environment as an Early Years Teaching Assistant
Who We’re Looking For To be successful as an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you will bring:
- An Early Years or Childcare qualification or relevant experience working with children under 5 (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
- A warm, observant, patient nature suitable for early childhood work
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit
- Sensitivity to individual children’s needs and the ability to adapt approaches accordingly
- A genuine interest in early years development and inclusive education
About the Setting:

Working Hours:
- 5 days a week, 8.30 am – 3.30 pm (term‑time only)
- Full‑time and part‑time applications welcome
- Start date: ASAP
Location – Carlisle
Role Type: Full Time / Part Time / Temp – Perm
Pay Rate: £14.60 – £16.90 per hour

This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
