EYFS Teaching Assistant

Support the very first steps of learning with patience, care and creativity.

We are looking for a nurturing and proactive Early Years Foundation Stage EYFS Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs in a mainstream school in Penrith. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of early intervention and enjoys supporting young children with a variety of SEND, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

The role
This role involves working closely with children in Nursery and Reception who require additional support with communication, sensory needs, social interaction and learning development. You will work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies and ensure children are fully included in all aspects of EYFS provision.

Duties include:

• Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND

• Assisting with communication-focused activities and early learning routines

• Supporting pupils with speech and language targets, sensory regulation and interaction skills

• Helping children develop independence through structured routines

• Supporting transitions and emotional regulation during the school day

The ideal person
The successful candidate will:

• Have experience working within EYFS and with children with SEND

• Be patient, caring and consistent, with a child-centred approach

• Understand child development and early communication strategies

• Be able to work collaboratively with staff, parents and external professionals

• Hold a relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification

• Have a calm, positive approach and a good sense of humour

The school is a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary setting with a strong commitment to early years development and SEND provision. Staff work closely to ensure that all children, regardless of need, can access a rich and engaging curriculum in a safe and supportive environment.

Hours
Monday to Friday
8.30am – 3.30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
