We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive SEND primary school in Whitehaven that is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to join their team. As a SEND Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the classroom teacher and helping pupils, aged 5-10, reach their full potential. You’ll work closely with pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, including Autism, speech and language needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will support learning on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping to create a safe, structured and engaging environment.
– Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a SEND setting
– A relevant TA qualification (e.g. Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant)
– A calm, patient and nurturing approach
– Confidence supporting children with additional needs and adapting to individual learning styles
– Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and external professionals
– A genuine commitment to inclusion and supporting every child’s progress
– A warm, welcoming and supportive team environment
– A strong focus on staff wellbeing and development

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory
holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
