Reception Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Reception Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic primary school in Carlisle. This role provides an exciting opportunity to support children with SEND, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in both 1-1 and small group settings. If you are committed to helping children thrive in a nurturing environment and have the skills to support behaviour management, sensory circuits, and emotional regulation, we would love to hear from you.


The Role

As a Reception Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1-1 and small group support for children, particularly those with SEND and ASD.
  • Assisting with sensory circuits to support emotional and physical regulation.
  • Helping children with emotional regulation and implementing behaviour management strategies.
  • Collaborating with the class teacher and other staff to deliver personalised learning plans.
  • Supporting the children’s social, emotional, and academic development within a supportive classroom setting.


The Ideal Person

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification.
  • Experience working with children with ASD or other SEND is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding and experience of behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.

Hours

This role is available on both a full-time and part-time basis, working Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm. We are open to applications for either option.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
