SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant

We have an exciting new role for a SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant to work as part of a new team, in a specialist primary unit for EYFS and KS1 pupils with SEMH. The role is to work in caring and pupil focused primary school, starting ASAP. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity for someone passionate about working and helping pupils with SEMH,

 

The school recently opened this warm and nurturing unit to help support young pupils with Social and Emotional and Mental Health Needs. The lessons are warm and nurturing and offer a safe environment for them to learn. There are 5 pupils in the unit with a staffing team of 4 to help the pupils and focus on improving and developing their mental health.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Working closely with the classroom teacher to help deliver , engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • working with young people who may act impulsively, struggle to read social cues or understand how their behaviour affects others
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for children.
  • Creating a nurturing and safe environment where children can grow emotionally, socially and academically.
  • Supporting classroom routines, managing behaviour positively, and encouraging a love of learning through both indoor and outdoor play.
  • Getting involved in school events and activities that support the holistic development of each child.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Someone who genuinely loves working with young children, especially in EYFS or KS1.
  • A passion for supporting children with SEMH
  • Patience, empathy, and a warm, positive attitude.
  • A basic understanding of EYFS or KS1
  • Relevant qualifications or the motivation to work towards them (we can help with that too!).

 

Whether you’re looking for full-time or part-time hours, we’d love to hear from you. School hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm, and support and ongoing SEND training will be provided.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. we undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
