SEN Teaching Assistant – Post-16 Provision

We are now looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a schools Post-16 Provision team immediately. This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact—supporting young people not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and vocationally. Our focus goes far beyond traditional education—our staff help students develop life skills, access work experiences, and grow in confidence as they move toward independence.

What the Role Involves

You’ll be working closely with learners aged 16–25, offering 1:1 and small-group support. This includes:

Helping students develop key life skills such as budgeting, travel training, timekeeping, and communication
Supporting vocational tasks and work placements
Encouraging independence and daily living skills both in and out of the classroom
Working alongside teachers, therapists, and external partners to help students work towards their personal goals
Managing behaviour positively and calmly, using empathy and consistency
Encouraging students to grow in confidence and self-awareness as they prepare for adult life

Whether you’re helping someone write a CV, plan their week, or navigate their way to a placement, you’ll be playing a vital role in their journey.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome people from a range of backgrounds—whether in education, care, psychology, or youth work. More important than qualifications is your attitude and approach.

You’ll ideally have:

Experience supporting individuals with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities
Confidence managing behaviour and responding to emotional needs calmly
A proactive, adaptable, and hands-on approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
A genuine interest in supporting young people’s progress into adulthood
An understanding of how to encourage independence in real-world contexts

Key Details

Location: Leeds
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Contract: Long-term, with part-time options available

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do, and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
