We are seeking a committed and reflective SEND English Teacher to deliver high-quality, accessible English lessons within a specialist SEND school in Blackburn.

 

This rewarding opportunity involves teaching basic and functional English to pupils with special educational needs, supporting them to develop communication, literacy, confidence, and independence. You will work within a specialist, highly supportive environment where strong relationships, pupil wellbeing, and individual progress are central to success.

 

You’ll be teaching pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs. The school provides a well-resourced environment and a collaborative team to support you in building a meaningful and rewarding teaching career.

 

The Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons tailored to individual learning needs
  • Teach basic literacy, communication, and functional English skills
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support a range of SEND, including ASC and additional learning needs
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and external professionals
  • Monitor, assess, record, and report on student progress consistently
  • Support the development of communication, confidence, and independence
  • Create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment
  • Manage and support behaviour positively, promoting self-regulation
  • Work collaboratively with care staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for pupils
  • Organise classroom resources and learning activities to maximise engagement

 

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English or literacy (primary or secondary level considered)
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND (ASC, SEMH, or complex needs desirable)
  • Flexible and adaptable teaching approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Patient, empathetic, and nurturing attitude
  • Ability to deliver creative, engaging, and accessible lessons
  • Commitment to helping pupils achieve their full potential

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
