SEND Teaching Assistant

Sense Education is looking to recruit a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a Year 4 pupil with significant additional needs. The pupil requires ongoing support to access the curriculum and will benefit from your pivotal role in their inclusion and learning within the school environment.

The role involves supporting a child who exhibits challenging behaviours and will require the use of breakaway areas and sensory rooms as part of their personalised support plan.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide personalised one-to-one support to enable the pupil to engage within school.
• Manage and support challenging behaviours with patience and understanding, using appropriate strategies and interventions.
• Utilise breakaway areas and sensory rooms to support the pupil’s emotional regulation and wellbeing.
• Adapt and tailor learning resources to meet the pupil’s specific needs.
• Support the pupil’s social, emotional, and educational development to promote full inclusion.
• Work closely with teaching staff, families, and professionals to ensure consistent and effective support.
• Maintain accurate records of progress and contribute to planning and review meetings.

Person Specification:

• Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with challenging behaviours.
• Confidence in using de-escalation techniques and supporting emotional regulation.
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering inclusion and learning.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Relevant qualifications and training in SEND or education support

Hours: 8.30-3.30 Monday to Friday

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. we undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
