Lavender Heung - Candidate Attraction Specialist
Lavender’s journey into the SEND sector began at university, where she volunteered at a weekend play scheme for children with SEND. From the very start, she was inspired by the joy, resilience, and individuality of each young person, it quickly became clear how meaningful this work could be. Sharing in their smiles, celebrating their progress, and building trusting relationships has kept her deeply committed to the SEND sector ever since.
She was drawn to Sense Education because she felt a genuine care for both students and staff. It stood out to her as a truly special place – one rooted in warmth, integrity, and collaboration, where people are passionate about finding the right individuals to support SEND students and where every voice is valued and heard.
In her role as a Candidate Attraction Specialist, she plays an important part in connecting compassionate, dedicated people with SEND schools. By helping to bring the right individuals into the sector, she supports the creation of nurturing, inclusive environments where SEND students can feel understood, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Alongside her professional role, Lavender is a journalism graduate with a strong interest in sharing and amplifying SEND experiences. During her studies, she produced a mini-documentary exploring the lives of SEND families in Leeds—an experience that deepened her understanding and reinforced her commitment to this work.
Outside of work, she loves spending time bouldering and could happily lose hours in a climbing gym, exploring new routes and chatting with the welcoming climbing community. Staying active and connecting with kind, passionate people is what gives her energy and keeps her inspired.
