Are you passionate about supporting young people in education? Do you have an interest in developing your skills and knowledge about children with special educational needs? A specialist setting in Leeds is looking for an enthusiastic and nurturing teaching assistant who can bring energy, creativity and compassion to their early years team.

 

The Role

As an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with children in EYFS who have a range of special educational needs (SEN), supporting them in engaging in play-based activities, sensory and communication-focused learning.

Your role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN.

  • Encourage early milestones in speech, movement, social interactions and play.

  • Support learning through sensory exploration, visuals, music, and structured routines.

  • Using PECS, makaton, visual schedules, and communication boards.

 

The Ideal Candidate

This role suits individuals from a variety of backgrounds, especially those who bring creativity, patience and a passion for inclusive education.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working in schools, health and social care settings, youth work, or with young people with special educational needs.

  • Possesses soft skills including creativity, confidence, patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.

  • Has the ability to build trusting relationships with the pupils.

  • Is a team player, adaptable, passionate and knowledgeable about working with children with special educational needs, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.

  • A graduate in psychology, education, or child development. Having either a Teaching assistant or childcare qualifications would be desirable.

 

Working Hours

Monday – Friday

8:30am – 3:30pm

Term time only

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
