Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant

Do you have an interest in developing your skills and knowledge about children with special educational needs? 

A specialist school setting in Bury is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Primary Teaching Assistant who can bring energy, confidence and creativity to their team. 

The Role 

As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you’ll be supporting children who have a range of special educational needs (SEN), engaging in play-based activities, and communication-focused learning. 

Your role will include: 

• Providing 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN. 
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to create a consistent, reassuring environment 
• Bringing imagination into the classroom – whether that’s through play, storytelling or simply seeing things from a child’s perspective 
• Using PECS, makaton, visual schedules, and communication boards. ● Creating a nurturing and calm environment for the pupils to thrive. 

The Ideal Candidate 

This role suits individuals from a variety of backgrounds, especially those who bring creativity, patience and a passion for inclusive education. 

We are looking for someone who: 

• Has experience working in schools, health and social care settings, youth work, or with young people with special educational needs. 
• Possesses soft skills including creativity, confidence, patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. 
• Has the ability to build trusting relationships with the pupils and staff members. ● Is a team player, adaptable, passionate and knowledgeable about working with children with special educational needs, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• A graduate in psychology, education, or child development. Having either a Teaching assistant or childcare qualifications would be desirable. 
• Training in PECs and Makaton is desirable. 
• Team Teach is desirable. 

Working Hours 

Monday – Friday 

8:30am – 3:30pm 

Term time only

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
