Sense Education are currently looking for Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team to work in a SEND school in the Leeds area. We are passionate about helping young people and improving the learning journey for young people with SEND. We are looking for a consistent and supportive Specialist Teaching Assistant to work in small class groups supporting the teacher, in delivering personalised lessons that are tailored to the pupils needs. This role requires people who are flexible, communicative and caring. We will consider people with previous TA experience and also people from other industries who are passionate about helping young people with SEND. You could be working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and physical disabilities.
The role:
-You will be working with a team of TA’s assisting pupils during lessons and group sessions
-To work 1:1 and also in small groups with pupils
-You may be expected to fill in pupils learning journals and document reading and development milestones
-The role could be supporting in other sessions such as Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Speech and Language sessions
-The role could require the use of basic Makaton which can be learnt as you go
-To assist with lunch times and break times when required
-To support in soft play and sensory play sessions
-To practice and implement positive behaviour management methods
-To create a safe learning environment for the pupils and keeping safeguarding as a priority

-Will be kind and caring

-Is a great communicator and is willing to create strong relationships with pupils and staff
-Has a positive energy to bring positivity to the classroom
– Has previous experience as a TA – this is desirable but not essential

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis.
