Part-time SEND Teaching Assistant  

Sense Education is searching for a compassionate and motivated Part-time SEND Teaching Assistant to provide vital support to students with a variety of needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The Role:  

As a Part-time SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with complex needs in both one-to-one and small group settings. Responsibilities include:  

  • – Encouraging emotional regulation and helping students navigate their feelings.  
  • – Facilitating learning for non-verbal students, using techniques such as Makaton and alternative communication methods (training provided if needed).  
  • – Supporting students in engaging with an alternative curriculum tailored to their unique needs.  
  • – Assisting in creating a nurturing environment in sensory rooms and during other interactive activities.  
  • – Helping during snack and meal times to ensure students feel safe and cared for.  
  • – Collaborating with teaching staff to empower students to achieve their personal and educational goals.

The Ideal Person:  

The ideal candidate is:  

  • – Qualified with a degree or credentials in teaching assistance, childcare, EYFS, health and social care, or a similar field.  
  • – Experienced in working with SEND students, especially those with emotional regulation and alternative communication needs (though a genuine passion and willingness to learn are most important).  
  • – Kind, patient, and enthusiastic about supporting children in overcoming challenges and embracing their individuality.  
  • – Resourceful and capable of adapting to the varying needs of students, from one-to-one interaction to small group dynamics.

Hours:  

This is a part-time role. School hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday with flexibility in working days, allowing you to fit the role around your lifestyle.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do, and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
